Scientific Communication & Community Engagement

I believe scientific knowledge should be accessible to everyone. As part of my commitment to science outreach, I created and maintain tendstozero.com.

tendstozero: Making Chemistry Accessible

tendstozero.com is a free educational platform dedicated to making chemistry and scientific knowledge accessible to students and the general public.

Mission

Democratize access to high-quality scientific education. Too often, advanced chemistry concepts are hidden behind textbooks and paywalls. tendstozero makes them free and interactive.

Content

The platform covers:

  • General Chemistry: Fundamentals of chemistry, atomic structure, bonding, thermodynamics
  • Computational Chemistry: Introduction to molecular simulations and computational methods
  • Chemical Engineering: Process fundamentals, reactor design, unit operations
  • Sustainability: Green chemistry, renewable energy, circular economy
  • Career Development: Guidance for chemistry students and aspiring researchers

Audience

  • Chemistry students (secondary and undergraduate)
  • Career changers interested in science
  • Science enthusiasts
  • Young people exploring STEM

Impact

  • Free access, no ads, no paywalls
  • Written for clarity and understanding
  • Connects theory to real-world applications
  • Encourages critical thinking about science

Why Outreach Matters

Personal Motivation

When I was studying chemistry, I struggled to find resources that explained “why” beyond just formulas. I want to create the resources I wished existed.

I come from India and benefited from free educational resources online. Now I want to give back by creating free resources for students everywhere.

Scientific Responsibility

As researchers, we have a responsibility to communicate our work clearly to the public. Science should not be confined to academic journals read only by other scientists.

Other Outreach Activities

Beyond tendstozero, I am interested in:

  • Mentoring: Helping younger students navigate chemistry and research careers
  • Open Source: Contributing to open-source scientific software projects
  • Teaching: Writing tutorials and educational content
  • Collaboration: Working with educators to improve science communication

If you’re interested in science outreach or education:

My Philosophy on Science Communication

  1. Clarity over Complexity: Explain ideas simply without losing accuracy
  2. Context Matters: Connect concepts to real-world applications and motivations
  3. Accessibility First: Make knowledge free and available to all
  4. Critical Thinking: Encourage questions and deeper understanding
  5. Long-term Impact: Build resources that last and evolve

Outreach is not separate from research—it’s an integral part of being a responsible scientist.
